"Barbara Allen" is a Scottish folk song telling the story of a woman denying a dying man's love, though the exact story is slightly different between the many published variations. Some scholars suggest that it is possibly the most wide-spread folk song in the English speaking world.
This particular arrangement is for a bell weaving trio by Mark Lewis. Ringers 1 and 2 should be well versed in traveling 4-in-hand technique and ringer two will share their bells with both of the others. Ringer 3 will need to be able to keep a very steady waltz pattern going while switching between bells, and all ringers will have some very quick bell changes. While the piece is challenging, most intermediate players should be able to perform it with sufficient practice time.
