A Spring Song was originally written for keyboard by Ciro Pinsuti in 1872. It was based on a poem, the last verse translates as -
O lovely, lovely, lovely Spring!
O robed in sunbeams! bridegroom, king!
Breathe on my heart and bid me sing,
Or rather praise and pray;
For emblems are these sunny, hours,
These golden meads, and stream, and flowers,
Of everlasting May!
Blanche Marie Lewis has taken this lively piece and arranged it for antiphonal flute choirs. The call and response jumps back and forth like a butterfly flitting from flower to flower.
