This unique quartet by Mark Lewis is intended for four performers clapping their hands. The 7/8 time signature means that Clapping Quartet is a fun counting challenge. In addition to its unique sound, the nature of the performance means that the piece is also very fun to watch.
While the parts individually are not too difficult, the 7/8 time signature and fact that every part is unique means that keeping a well-defined internal pulse is essential to performing this piece well. The visual aspects of cascading claps starting with different people in the ensemble add an additional layer of difficulty and interest to the performance.
