"Ask Ye What Great Thing I Know" was written around the turn of the 17th to 18th centuries by Johann Christoph Schwedler. The tune most often used with this text, Hendon, was written by H. A. Cesar Malan almost 100 years later.
This lovely arrangement by Mark Lewis for 8-Bell handbell duet utilizes the last line of text as a recurring varied refrain and explores the melody of the verses in various rhythmic permutations. While the rhythms are at times complex, this arrangement should be playable by most intermediate handbell players.
Season: General
Range: C6-C7 (also available G5-G6)
